Smartwatch eSIM: Galaxy Watch & Pixel Watch (2026)
Which Galaxy Watch and Pixel Watch models take an eSIM, which carriers activate them, what number sharing costs, and why the watch rarely works abroad.

Every LTE (cellular) Galaxy Watch since the Watch4 and every LTE Pixel Watch from the first generation to the Pixel Watch 5 has a built-in eSIM, but it only works when the carrier of your Android phone adds the watch to your line, usually as a paid “number share” option. Samsung's own support page says activation “requires a plan from your mobile carrier [...] matching the one for your phone” (Samsung US), and Google publishes a list of approved carriers per country and per watch (Google Pixel Watch Help).
We read Samsung's and Google's support pages and the carriers' own offer pages on 27 October 2026. Below: which models have eSIM, which carriers activate them in the US and UK, what it costs per month, how to set it up, and what happens when you travel. If you have an Apple Watch, read our Apple Watch eSIM guide instead.
Key takeaways
- Only the LTE versions have an eSIM. Bluetooth/Wi-Fi versions of the same watch have no modem and can never take a plan.
- The watch plan comes from your phone's carrier: Verizon Number Share (from $7.50/month with a discount), AT&T NumberSync (from $10.99), Vodafone UK OneNumber (from ÂŁ7.50). Galaxy Watch4 and later and every Pixel Watch need an Android phone.
- A travel eSIM cannot be installed on these watches. Abroad, the watch roams only if your carrier allows it; otherwise it falls back to Bluetooth and Wi-Fi through your phone.
The rule that decides everything: same carrier, same number
A cellular watch is not a small phone with its own SIM. In almost every case it is a second device on your phone's line: calls and texts to your usual number ring on both, and the carrier bills a monthly add-on for it. The carriers give this feature their own name: Samsung's US help page lists Verizon NumberShare, AT&T NumberSync and T-Mobile DIGITS (Samsung), and Vodafone in the UK calls it OneNumber.
Three consequences follow, all stated on the manufacturers' pages:
- Same carrier. Samsung says you must activate the watch “through the same carrier as your mobile phone” (Samsung). Samsung Germany adds that a mix such as the phone on one network and the watch on another “generally does not work”, and that some carriers support the watch eSIM only with Galaxy phones (Samsung Germany).
- Same number. Google says Pixel Watch LTE “doesn't require you to have a new number”: once activated, the watch uses your phone's number (Google).
- Android only. Samsung lists the Galaxy Watch4, Watch5, Watch6, Watch7, Watch Ultra and Watch FE as incompatible with iPhone because they “rely on Google Play services which is not supported on iOS” (Samsung); the Watch9 and Watch Ultra2 need Android 13 or later (Samsung). Google states that iPhones are not supported by any Pixel Watch (Google).
So the first question is never “which watch?” but “does my carrier offer a watch plan for this watch?”. If the answer is no, the LTE version gives you nothing more than the cheaper Bluetooth version.
Which Galaxy Watch models have eSIM?
Every Galaxy Watch sold in an “LTE” version has an embedded SIM; the Bluetooth versions do not. Samsung Germany publishes the list of LTE model numbers that take an eSIM (Samsung Germany); the 2026 models are confirmed by Samsung's product pages, which give the SIM type as “Embedded-SIM” (Galaxy Watch9 LTE, Galaxy Watch Ultra2 LTE).
| Model | eSIM | LTE model numbers (Europe) | Phone needed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Watch4 / Watch4 Classic | Yes, LTE versions | SM-R865, R875, R885, R895 | Android 6.0+ |
| Galaxy Watch5 / Watch5 Pro | Yes, LTE versions | SM-R905, R915, R925 | Android 8.0+ |
| Galaxy Watch6 / Watch6 Classic | Yes, LTE versions | SM-R935F, R945F, R955F, R965F | Android 8.0+ |
| Galaxy Watch7 | Yes, LTE versions | SM-L305F, L315F | Android 11+ |
| Galaxy Watch Ultra and Watch Ultra (2025) | Yes | SM-L705F | Android 11+ |
| Galaxy Watch8 / Watch8 Classic | Yes, LTE versions | SM-L325F, L335F, L505F | Android |
| Galaxy Watch9 (40 and 44 mm) | Yes, LTE versions | SM-L345F, L355F | Android 13+ |
| Galaxy Watch Ultra2 | Yes, LTE versions | SM-L715F | Android 13+ |
| Galaxy Watch FE | LTE version announced in 2024, not confirmed on sale | Not in Samsung's eSIM list | Android |
Android minimums come from Samsung's compatibility pages (Watch4 to Ultra, Watch9 and Ultra2). US models carry a “U” instead of an “F” in the model number but work the same way with US carriers. The Galaxy Watch9 and Ultra2 were unveiled on 22 July 2026 and went on sale in Germany on 7 August 2026 (Samsung Newsroom). Samsung's product pages add a warning that applies to all of them: “LTE availability depends on your country/region and carrier.”
Older Tizen watches (Galaxy Watch Active, Active2 and Watch3 in LTE versions) also have an eSIM and are on Samsung Germany's list; they are the only Galaxy Watches that could pair with an iPhone, but carriers increasingly no longer list them.
Not sure which version you have? On the watch, open Settings > About watch > Device (or Status). If an EID or IMEI is shown, it is an LTE watch with eSIM. Our device page for the Galaxy Watch (LTE) keeps the model list up to date.
Which Pixel Watch models have eSIM, and which carriers support them?
Google sells every generation in Wi-Fi/Bluetooth and LTE versions; only the LTE versions have an eSIM. Unlike Samsung, Google publishes the carriers that support the watch in each country, model by model (Google Pixel Watch Help). Minimum Android version on the phone: Pixel Watch 8.0, Pixel Watch 2 9.0, Pixel Watch 3 10.0, Pixel Watch 4 11.0, Pixel Watch 5 12.0.
| Country | Pixel Watch 5 LTE | Pixel Watch 4 LTE |
|---|---|---|
| United States | AT&T (FirstNet), C-Spire*, Cellcom, Comcast Business, Google Fi, T-Mobile, Visible*, Verizon, Xfinity | AT&T, Cellcom, Google Fi, T-Mobile, UScellular, Verizon, Visible, Xfinity |
| United Kingdom | EE, Three, Vodafone | EE, Three, Vodafone, O2 (marked “Wi-Fi”) |
| Ireland | Three, Vodafone | Three, Vodafone |
| Germany | 1&1, Telekom, O2, Vodafone | 1&1, Telekom, O2, Vodafone |
| France | Orange, SFR | Orange, SFR; Bouygues and Free marked “Wi-Fi” |
| Spain | Movistar*, Vodafone* | Movistar, Vodafone; Orange and Masmovil marked “Wi-Fi” |
| Italy | Vodafone | Vodafone |
| Mexico | None | None |
* Google's footnote: “Indirect carrier”. Carriers marked “Wi-Fi” appear in the table with that mention only, not as full LTE carriers; ask them before buying the LTE version. Belgium does not appear in the LTE table at all.
If your carrier is not in Google's list for your watch and country, the LTE version will most likely not activate. In the US there is a sweetener: a Pixel Watch 4 LTE or Pixel Watch 5 (LTE) bought from the US Google Store or Best Buy comes with two years of data and texting at no charge, according to the same page. Our Pixel Watch device page sums up the models.
What number sharing costs with US and UK carriers
Prices below are those shown on the carriers' own pages on 27 October 2026, before taxes and fees. Where we could not read a carrier's page, we say so rather than quote a figure from elsewhere.
| Carrier | Name of the feature | Monthly price | Conditions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Verizon | Number Share / Number Share Plus | Unlimited: $15, or $7.50 with discount. Unlimited Plus: $25, or $12.50 with discount | “50% discount requires smartphone line on Unlimited Plus” or another listed plan |
| AT&T | NumberSync | From $10.99 for a smartwatch line on an AT&T Unlimited plan | “An AT&T postpaid wireless account” set up for HD Voice |
| T-Mobile | DIGITS (named by Samsung) | Not verified: T-Mobile's pages refused our reader | Check in the T-Life app or a store |
| Google Fi | Smartwatch line | Not verified | Listed by Google for Pixel Watch 3 to 5 |
| Vodafone UK | OneNumber Connectivity Plan | From £7.50 | “You must have an Airtime Plan with us”; supports “Samsung Galaxy Watch 4G and above” and “Google Pixel Watch” |
| EE, Three, O2 | Smartwatch plans | Not verified: offer pages unavailable on 27 October 2026 | EE and Three are on Google's Pixel Watch 5 list; O2 only “Wi-Fi” for Pixel Watch 4 |
Two points the price alone does not show. First, these are almost always postpaid add-ons: AT&T requires a postpaid account and Vodafone UK an Airtime Plan. If you are on prepaid or on a budget MVNO that is not in Google's list, assume the watch will not activate until the carrier says otherwise. Second, the watch shares your plan's allowances: Vodafone UK states that the watch uses your phone plan's minutes, texts and data.
How to activate the eSIM on a Galaxy Watch or Pixel Watch
Before you start: add the watch option to your account with the carrier (online, in the carrier's app or in a store), keep the phone on Wi-Fi or mobile data, and keep the watch charged and close to the phone.
Galaxy Watch (Galaxy Wearable app)
- If you are setting up a new LTE watch, the app offers to add a mobile plan at the end of pairing (Samsung). Otherwise open Galaxy Wearable on the phone.
- Tap Watch settings (or the Home tab), then Mobile plans. The app searches for an eligible LTE network (Samsung US).
- Follow the prompts. With AT&T and Verizon you scan a QR code supplied by the carrier; Samsung notes that a reset watch needs a new QR code.
- Wait for the confirmation screen. Then put the phone in airplane mode and make a test call from the watch to check that it connects on its own.
Samsung's US page also says the phone must have a SIM card inserted for phone-based activation. If the watch was set up without a phone, activation can be done on the watch itself.
Pixel Watch (Pixel Watch app)
- On the watch, open Settings > Connectivity > Mobile and check that the status is Automatic (Google).
- On the phone, open the Pixel Watch app and tap Connectivity > Mobile network > your carrier.
- Follow the on-screen instructions; the carrier's sign-in or confirmation screen appears.
- To move the line to a replacement watch, use the same path on the phone.
Carriers often ask for the watch's EID. On a Pixel Watch it is under Settings > Connectivity > Mobile > SIM status, at the bottom; on a Galaxy Watch under Settings > About watch > Device, or in Galaxy Wearable under Watch settings > About watch > Device. Our guide to finding the EID shows the phone side.
Does the watch eSIM work abroad?
Usually not on its own, and a travel eSIM will not fix it.
- No travel eSIMs on watches. The watch profile can only come from your phone's carrier, through the companion app. Airalo's own list of eSIM devices, for example, contains no Galaxy Watch, Pixel Watch or Apple Watch (Airalo). Install the travel eSIM on your phone instead.
- Roaming depends on the carrier. Google says your carrier must support VoLTE and roaming for the watch and tells you to “check with your carrier if your plan supports LTE international roaming before taking it abroad”. For the Pixel Watch 2, roaming works within the EU and UK, Asia-Pacific or North America, but not between those regions (Google).
- Some carriers do include it. Verizon includes Canada and Mexico roaming with Number Share (high speed up to 2 GB a day). Vodafone UK says out-of-plan charges show as a single roaming charge across all your devices.
In practice the watch keeps working abroad through Bluetooth or Wi-Fi as long as your phone has data, whether from roaming or a travel eSIM. Notifications, messages and calls go through the phone. To compare those options before a trip, see what to check about roaming charges and how to keep your number while travelling.
Other LTE watches with eSIM
Outside Samsung, Google and Apple, few watches have an eSIM, and carrier support is thinner still. We only list what a manufacturer or carrier page confirmed on 27 October 2026.
- Huawei Watch Ultimate 2: Huawei's specification page lists an operating temperature for “eSIM calls” and a battery test with “2 hours of LTE connection”, and warns that some features vary by region (Huawei). Outside China, ask your carrier whether it activates Huawei watches before buying.
- Vodafone UK's OneNumber page also lists OPPO Watch, Montblanc Summit 2+ (LTE) and Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 3 LTE among supported devices.
We could not read official pages confirming eSIM for other brands' watches (Xiaomi, OnePlus, Garmin, Withings) on the day we checked, so we leave them out rather than guess. If you own one, look for “LTE” or “eSIM” in the model name and check your carrier's list of compatible watches.
If activation fails
- Check the version. No EID in the watch's settings means a Bluetooth/Wi-Fi model: it cannot take a plan.
- Check the carrier list. For a Pixel Watch, find your country and model in Google's table. For a Galaxy Watch, look for the model on your carrier's smartwatch page.
- Check the account. The watch option must be on the same account as the phone, usually postpaid. Prepaid lines and some MVNOs are refused.
- Use a fresh QR code. After a watch reset, AT&T and Verizon codes must be reissued, says Samsung.
- Give the carrier the identifiers. If it still fails, or after a repair, Samsung advises contacting the carrier with the watch's EID, IMEI or ICCID and confirming you have the right plan (Samsung).
For phone-side issues the same fixes apply as for any eSIM: see eSIM stuck on activating and what to do when an eSIM shows no service. If you deleted the watch's profile, the carrier must issue a new one, as for a phone: here is how.
Next step: check that your phone itself supports eSIM in our compatible devices list, and compare with the Apple Watch if you are still choosing a watch.
How we checked
On 27 October 2026 we read Google's Pixel Watch compatibility and cellular plan pages (compatibility and carriers, cellular plan), Samsung's support pages in the US, Germany, Switzerland and Latin America, Samsung's product pages for the Galaxy Watch9, Watch8 Classic and Watch Ultra2 LTE, and the offer pages of Verizon, AT&T and Vodafone UK. T-Mobile, Google Fi, EE, Three and O2 pages could not be read that day, so we give no price for them. Model lists are cross-checked with our device database. Carrier offers change often: confirm the price in your carrier's app before adding a watch.
