Mexico eSIM guide: prices, home-plan roaming, local networks and the 2026 line registration

This page gathers everything eSIM Check has published about staying connected in Mexico: our price survey of seven travel eSIMs, what US and Canadian home plans include south of the border, the prepaid offers of AT&T México and Movistar, the regulator's coverage figures for Telcel, AT&T, Movistar and Altán, and the rule that changed Mexican phone lines in 2026. Since 9 January 2026 every Mexican mobile line must be linked to its user's identity, which a visitor does with a passport; a foreign SIM or travel eSIM on roaming is not part of that process for now. Many Americans and Canadians do not need an eSIM at all, because their plan already covers Mexico; Europeans and Latin Americans usually do. Every figure is dated, and every article links to its sources.

Key facts

  • Since 9 January 2026 every Mexican mobile line must be linked to a person, under the regulator's guidelines published in the Official Gazette; visitors link a Mexican SIM or eSIM with their passport. The CRT will only define a mechanism for foreign lines on international roaming after the 2026 World Cup, and had published none by 26 October 2026.
  • On 26 October 2026, Nomad sold 7 days of unlimited Mexico data for $22 (2 GB a day at full speed) and Airalo for $23.50 or €22 (3 GB a day); Maya Mobile's global plan cost $19.99 for a week.
  • AT&T and Verizon include Mexico in their US unlimited plans; Canada's Bell charges $16 a day under Roam Better, and Rogers sells a US, Mexico and Caribbean pass from $50 for 3 days.
  • AT&T México’s AT&T Go eSIM, open to visitors from the US and Canada, cost 150 pesos (about $8) for 6.5 GB over 30 days, with unlimited calls and texts in Mexico and the US.
  • In the regulator’s coverage report for late 2025, Telcel's 4G reached 94.4% of the population, AT&T 91.3%, Altán 91.2% and Movistar 83.4%; in Oaxaca and Chiapas every network falls well below that.
