Kenya eSIM guide: prices, networks and coverage on safari

This page gathers everything eSIM Check has published about staying connected in Kenya: our price survey of the travel eSIMs and Safaricom's tourist bundles, the independent measurements of Safaricom and Airtel, what is really known about coverage in the Maasai Mara, and how to combine Kenya with Tanzania and Zanzibar. Every figure is dated, and every article links to its sources.

Key facts

  • Most travel eSIMs run on Airtel, which appears in 75% of the Kenya plans that name a network on the comparison database esimdb (16 October 2026). Airalo's Kenya and Africa Safari plans run on Safaricom.
  • In nPerf's barometer of user speed tests for April 2025 to March 2026, Safaricom averaged 30.55 Mb/s download against 13.20 Mb/s on Airtel. The Communications Authority of Kenya gave Safaricom 69.8% of mobile subscriptions at the end of June 2026.
  • On 16 October 2026, Holafly sold 7 days of unlimited Kenya data for €34.90, below the esimdb median of €46.97 for a Kenya-only week; Yesim sold 3 GB valid 30 days for €13.
  • Safaricom's Jambo Tourist Bundles include 22 GB for KSh 2,000, about €13.85, for visitors in their first 90 days on the network; Kenyan rules require an original passport to register the line.
  • No operator publishes coverage figures for the Maasai Mara. On nPerf's crowdsourced maps, which show where users tested rather than guaranteed coverage, the Mara Triangle had no test at all on Safaricom or Airtel, and only a handful of 4G tests appeared on the escarpment above it.
