Every Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip generation, from the original 2019 Galaxy Fold to the 2026 Z Fold8 Ultra, Z Fold8 and Z Flip8, appears on Samsung's own list of eSIM devices. With tablets it is less simple: only the cellular (5G or LTE) versions of the Galaxy Tab S9, S10, S11 and S12 families, the Tab S9 FE and S10 FE, the Tab Active5 range and the North American Tab A11+ have eSIM. Wi-Fi-only tablets have no SIM of any kind.
The catch is where the device was sold. Samsung warns that “depending on the country of origin, eSIM may not be supported even if your device is listed”, and its Hong Kong and Taiwan lists only name the 2026 foldables. Below you will find every model in tables, the regional exceptions Samsung documents, how many eSIMs each device holds, and a two-minute check you can run on your own phone or tablet. For Galaxy S and A phones, see our complete Samsung Galaxy model list.
Key takeaways
- All Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip models are on Samsung's eSIM list, plus the Z TriFold on Samsung's European lists; foldables older than the Fold8/Flip8 are missing from Samsung's Hong Kong and Taiwan lists.
- Galaxy Tab: only the 5G/LTE version has eSIM (Tab S9 and later, S9 FE and later, Active5, Tab A11+ in North America). Wi-Fi models, the Tab S10 Lite 5G and non-US Tab A11+ have none.
- Check in Settings > Connections > SIM manager: if you see Add eSIM, the hardware is there. Samsung says a Galaxy can store up to 20 eSIM profiles, with two lines active at once.
Does my Galaxy foldable or tablet have eSIM?
Yes for every Z Fold and Z Flip; yes for the cellular versions of recent Galaxy Tab S, FE and Active models; no for any Wi-Fi-only tablet. Samsung keeps one global list on its support sites. We compared the UK, US, India, Australia, Mexico, Hong Kong and Taiwan versions on 27 October 2026. They agree on the core list and differ on a few edges, shown below.
| Family | eSIM? | Main exception |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Z Fold (Fold to Fold8 Ultra) | Yes, all generations | Hong Kong and Taiwan units older than the Fold8 are not on the local lists |
| Galaxy Z TriFold | Yes on Samsung UK, France, Germany and Spain lists | Missing from the India, Australia and Mexico lists |
| Galaxy Z Flip (Flip to Flip8, Flip7 FE) | Yes, all generations | Same Hong Kong and Taiwan caveat |
| Galaxy Tab S9, S10, S11, S12 (5G) | Yes | Wi-Fi versions have no SIM; the Tab S12 is not yet on Samsung's list, but its 5G spec sheet shows eSIM |
| Galaxy Tab S9 FE, S10 FE (5G) | Yes | Wi-Fi versions have no SIM |
| Galaxy Tab Active5 / Active5 Pro | Yes | Cellular versions only |
| Galaxy Tab A11+ | North America only | The 5G model sold elsewhere is nano-SIM only |
| Galaxy Tab S10 Lite, Tab S8 and older Tab S | No / not listed | Nano-SIM only on cellular versions |
Our device pages keep the per-model details: Galaxy Z Fold series, Galaxy Z Flip series and Galaxy Tab models.
Galaxy Z Fold and Z TriFold: model-by-model
Samsung's list names every Fold: “Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra / Z Fold8 … Galaxy Z Fold2 … Galaxy Fold”. The 2026 models are documented in most detail: Samsung's spec FAQ for the Z Fold8 and Z Fold8 Ultra gives the SIM slot type as “SIM 1 + eSIM / Dual eSIM”, adding that the configuration “may vary by market, network operator and device variant”. Samsung Canada's launch overview confirms all three 2026 foldables.
| Model (year) | eSIM | SIM setup as documented | Regional notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Z Fold8 Ultra (2026) | Yes | Nano-SIM + eSIM, or two eSIMs (Samsung) | Also listed in Hong Kong and Taiwan |
| Z Fold8 (2026) | Yes | Nano-SIM + eSIM, or two eSIMs (Samsung) | Also listed in Hong Kong and Taiwan |
| Z TriFold (Dec 2025) | Yes (Samsung UK/EU lists) | Two nano-SIMs + multiple eSIM, max 2 active, per third-party spec sheets | Not on India, Australia, Mexico lists |
| Z Fold7 (2025) | Yes | “Dual Nano SIM + multi eSIM” on O2's UK spec sheet; max 2 active (GSMArena) | Not on Hong Kong/Taiwan lists |
| Z Fold6 (2024) | Yes | “Dual nano SIM + multi eSIM” (O2 UK) | Not on Hong Kong/Taiwan lists |
| Z Fold5 (2023) | Yes | Nano-SIM + eSIM; dual eSIM not documented by Samsung | Not on Hong Kong/Taiwan lists |
| Z Fold4 (2022) | Yes | Nano-SIM + eSIM | Not on Hong Kong/Taiwan lists |
| Z Fold3 (2021) | Yes | Nano-SIM + eSIM | Not on Hong Kong/Taiwan lists |
| Z Fold2 (2020) | Yes | Nano-SIM + eSIM | Not on Hong Kong/Taiwan lists |
| Galaxy Fold (2019) | Yes | Samsung lists it as “Galaxy Fold” without separating versions | Not on Hong Kong/Taiwan lists |
The number of physical slots varies by market: O2 lists two nano-SIM slots on the UK Fold6 and Fold7, but only one on the Fold8. Whatever the slots, the phone keeps at most two lines active at the same time. If your Fold shows only a single SIM tray, that does not affect eSIM.
Galaxy Z Flip and Flip FE: model-by-model
Every Flip is on the same Samsung list, including the cheaper Z Flip7 FE. Samsung's Z Flip8 spec FAQ uses the same “SIM 1 + eSIM / Dual eSIM” wording as the Fold8. There is no Z Flip8 FE on any Samsung site or eSIM list as of 27 October 2026, despite rumours.
| Model (year) | eSIM | SIM setup as documented | Regional notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Z Flip8 (2026) | Yes | Nano-SIM + eSIM, or two eSIMs (Samsung) | Also listed in Hong Kong and Taiwan |
| Z Flip7 (2025) | Yes | “Nano SIM + multi eSIM” (O2 UK) | Not on Hong Kong/Taiwan lists |
| Z Flip7 FE (2025) | Yes | “Nano SIM + multi eSIM” (O2 UK) | Not on Hong Kong/Taiwan lists |
| Z Flip6 (2024) | Yes | “Nano SIM + multi eSIM” (O2 UK) | Not on Hong Kong/Taiwan lists |
| Z Flip5 (2023) | Yes | Nano-SIM + eSIM | Not on Hong Kong/Taiwan lists |
| Z Flip4 (2022) | Yes | Nano-SIM + eSIM | Not on Hong Kong/Taiwan lists |
| Z Flip3 (2021) | Yes | Nano-SIM + eSIM | Not on Hong Kong/Taiwan lists |
| Z Flip 5G (2020) | Yes | Nano-SIM + eSIM | Not on Hong Kong/Taiwan lists |
| Z Flip (2020) | Yes | Nano-SIM + eSIM | Hong Kong's list names a “Galaxy Z Flip”, without a year |
“Multi eSIM” means the phone can store several eSIM profiles; it does not mean several can run at once. On every Flip, you use at most two lines simultaneously.
Galaxy Tab: which models have eSIM, which only nano-SIM
Samsung's rule is blunt: “Wi-Fi only tablet models do not support eSIM functionality” (Samsung). A Wi-Fi tablet has no cellular modem, so it takes neither an eSIM nor a nano-SIM. Among cellular tablets, the eSIM list starts with the Tab S9 generation. On Samsung's spec sheets, the 5G Tab S11, S12 and S10 FE+ all show “Dual-SIM” with “SIM 1 + Embedded SIM”: one nano-SIM plus one eSIM.
| Tablet | eSIM | SIM setup (cellular model) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tab S12+ / S12 Ultra 5G (2026) | Yes | Nano-SIM + eSIM (S12+ 5G, S12 Ultra 5G) | Not yet on Samsung's eSIM list; no base Tab S12 on Samsung's store |
| Tab S11 / S11 Ultra 5G (2025) | Yes | Nano-SIM + eSIM (Samsung spec) | On every Samsung list we read |
| Tab S10+ / S10 Ultra 5G (2024) | Yes | Physical SIM + eSIM (Samsung support) | There is no base Tab S10 |
| Tab S10 FE / S10 FE+ 5G (2025) | Yes | Nano-SIM + eSIM (S10 FE+ 5G spec) | |
| Tab S9 / S9+ / S9 Ultra 5G (2023) | Yes | Nano-SIM + eSIM | |
| Tab S9 FE / S9 FE+ 5G (2023) | Yes | Nano-SIM + eSIM | |
| Tab Active5 / Active5 Pro (cellular) | Yes | Nano-SIM + eSIM | Rugged range |
| Tab A11+ 5G | North America only | Elsewhere: single nano-SIM, no eSIM (SM-X236B spec) | Samsung marks it “Only North America” |
| Tab S10 Lite 5G | No | Single nano-SIM (SM-X406B spec) | |
| Tab S8 and older Tab S, Tab A | Not on Samsung's detailed lists | Nano-SIM | Only Samsung Lebanon's summary page mentions “S8” in passing |
Per-generation pages: Tab S10, Tab S11 and Tab S12. If you are choosing between a Galaxy Tab, an iPad and a laptop for travel data, our tablets and laptops guide compares them.
Regional variants: US, UK, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, China, India
The same marketing name can hide different hardware. What Samsung documents, region by region:
- United States and Canada: foldables sold by AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon are on Samsung's list, but Samsung US notes that “some carriers may not yet support the eSIM capabilities of your Galaxy device” (Samsung US). Samsung marks the Tab A11+ (and the XCover6 Pro phone) as eSIM-capable in North America only. A carrier-locked unit can only take that carrier's eSIM until it is unlocked.
- UK and Europe: the full list applies, and Samsung's UK, French, German and Spanish pages are the only ones that also name the Z TriFold. EE, O2, Three, Vodafone and Sky are among the UK carriers Samsung lists as supporting eSIM.
- Hong Kong and Taiwan: Samsung's Hong Kong page (“for Hong Kong products only”) lists the Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8 and Flip8, and the Taiwan page the same three. Earlier foldables bought there should be treated as nano-SIM only until the phone itself shows an Add eSIM option. Tablets from the Tab S9 onward are on both lists.
- South Korea: Samsung has no separate Korean eSIM list we could find, but it names KT, LG U+ and SKT as carriers for eSIM Simple Setup and Instant Transfer, which only work on eSIM-equipped Galaxy devices.
- Mainland China: China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom appear in Samsung's list of carriers that may support eSIM, but we found no Samsung China page confirming eSIM on mainland foldables. Check the unit before relying on it.
- India: Samsung India's page uses the global list and names Airtel, Jio and Vodafone Idea; Jio supports eSIM Simple Setup.
Exynos or Snapdragon? Samsung documents eSIM by country and carrier, not by processor; we found no Samsung statement that the chip changes eSIM support. Why manufacturers still ship eSIM-less variants is covered in why some regional variants lack eSIM hardware.
How many eSIMs, and how dual SIM works
Two numbers matter: how many eSIM profiles the device can store, and how many lines can be active at once. Samsung says a Galaxy “can download up to 20 eSIM profiles”, though the real number can be lower because it depends on the eSIM chip's memory and the size of each profile (Samsung). Downloading a profile is not the same as using it.
| Device | Profiles stored | Lines active at once | Combinations |
|---|---|---|---|
| Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8, Flip8 | Up to 20 (chip memory permitting) | 2 | Nano-SIM + eSIM, or eSIM + eSIM |
| Z Fold6/7, Flip6/7, Flip7 FE, TriFold | Several (“multi eSIM”) | 2 | Nano-SIM + eSIM; dual eSIM where the market variant allows |
| Z Fold5/Flip5 and older | Several | 2 | Nano-SIM + eSIM |
| Galaxy Tab 5G with eSIM | Several | 2 | Nano-SIM + eSIM (“SIM 1 + Embedded SIM”) |
With two active lines, both can receive calls and texts. In SIM manager you pick which line handles calls, messages and mobile data; Samsung US calls this setting Primary SIM (Samsung US). Inactive profiles stay on the device; switch them on when you travel. For travellers, the usual setup is: home SIM for calls and texts, travel eSIM for data. Our guide to keeping your number while abroad covers it. For the bigger picture, see how many eSIM profiles an Android phone can store.
How to check your own Galaxy in two minutes
A list tells you what the model can do; only the device tells you what your unit has. In order:
- Open Settings > Connections > SIM manager. This is the menu Samsung documents on its UK, US and India pages for current One UI versions. If you see Add eSIM, the eSIM hardware is present and enabled. If the menu shows only your nano-SIM, or there is no SIM manager at all (typical of Wi-Fi tablets), go to step 2.
- Read the model number (on the box, or in Settings among the device information). On Samsung's own store, the Wi-Fi and 5G versions of the same tablet differ by one digit: SM-X840N is the Wi-Fi Tab S12+, SM-X846B the 5G model; SM-X940N and SM-X946B are the Tab S12 Ultra pair (Samsung Malaysia). A tablet whose number ends in 0 on those lines is Wi-Fi only.
- Compare it with Samsung's spec sheet. Samsung Australia suggests opening the device's Spec page, then Network/Bearer, and looking for “Embedded-SIM” under SIM Size (Samsung AU). On other Samsung sites the field is called “SIM Slot Type”.
- Look for the EID. A device with an eSIM chip has an EID number; our EID guide shows where to find it.
If Add eSIM is missing on a model that should have it, the cause is usually a regional variant, a carrier lock or old software. Our step-by-step fix: the eSIM option is missing.
Adding or converting an eSIM on a Fold, Flip or Tab
Once you know the hardware is there, setup is the same on phones and tablets. From Samsung's UK instructions:
- Connect to Wi-Fi.
- Go to Settings > Connections > SIM manager and tap Add eSIM.
- Tap Scan QR code and scan the code from your carrier or travel eSIM provider. If you were given a code instead, tap Enter activation code.
- Wait for the download, then choose which line handles calls, texts and data.
To turn an existing nano-SIM into an eSIM, Samsung's path is SIM manager > tap the SIM > Convert to eSIM > Convert eSIM, if your carrier allows it; our SIM-to-eSIM conversion guide lists which carriers do. Moving from another Galaxy or Android phone uses Add eSIM > Transfer SIM from Galaxy/Android phone, and Samsung notes the new device “must be unlocked” (transfer guide).
For the full activation walkthrough and troubleshooting, read how to activate an eSIM on Android. If the download fails, contact your carrier: in the US, AT&T, T-Mobile or Verizon; in the UK, EE, O2, Three or Vodafone. Samsung support helps only when the device itself has a fault.

How we checked
On 27 October 2026 we read Samsung's eSIM device lists for the UK, US, India, Australia, Mexico, Hong Kong and Taiwan, plus Samsung's localised French, German and Spanish pages, and compared them model by model. SIM layouts come from Samsung's product spec pages (Fold8, Fold8 Ultra, Flip8, Tab S12, S11, S10 FE+, A11+, S10 Lite) and, for 2024–2025 foldables, from O2 UK's spec sheets. The Z TriFold's SIM layout is from third-party spec sheets because no Samsung page we could read lists it.
We did not find a Samsung Korea or Samsung China eSIM list, nor a Samsung statement on Exynos versus Snapdragon variants; where sources are silent, we say so rather than guess. Samsung updates these lists after each launch, so the Tab S12, for example, may be added soon. Spot an error? Tell us and we will recheck.
