Part of our Spain eSIM guide: all articles and key facts →

If your SIM card comes from an EU or EEA country, you can stop here: under the EU's roam-like-at-home rules it already works in Spain at home prices, within your operator's fair-use limits. This guide is for everyone else: British travellers, who lost free EU roaming with Brexit, Americans and Canadians, and visitors from Switzerland, the Maghreb, Latin America or the Gulf. For them, a travel eSIM is usually far cheaper than a daily roaming pass.

We read the Spain pages of eight providers on 26 October 2026, including Vodafone Spain's own data-only eSIM for visitors, and compared price, network, daily caps and the rules that matter, for trips from a weekend in Barcelona to a month in the Canary Islands. All prices are those displayed on the providers' pages on that day.

Key takeaways

  • EU and EEA SIMs roam in Spain at home prices; UK, US and other visitors pay their carrier's rate, such as AT&T's $12 a day or Three's £2.75 per 24 hours for customers who joined from 18 December 2025.
  • Cheapest verified unlimited plans on 26 October 2026: Orange Travel for 10 and 30 days (€21.99 and €41.99, discounts dated until 15 November 2026) and Maya Mobile's global plan for 3, 7 and 14 days (€8.49, €16.99, €23.79).
  • For a fixed allowance, Vodafone Spain's DataOnly eSIM sold 35 GB for 7 days at €15 and 140 GB for 30 days at €42; Movistar measured fastest in Opensignal's May 2026 report, Vodafone slowest.

Which is the best eSIM for Spain?

For unlimited data, Orange Travel was the cheapest verified single-country offer for 5, 10, 15 and 30 days; Maya Mobile's global plan was cheapest for 3, 7 and 14 days; and for a fixed allowance on a short trip, Vodafone Spain's own DataOnly eSIM gave the most data for the money. Here are the winners by need, on prices read on the providers' pages on 26 October 2026:

  • A stopover or one day in Madrid: Yesim sells one day of unlimited data for €3.50 and Holafly for €3.90.
  • A long weekend in Barcelona or Seville (3 days): Maya Mobile's global plan costs €8.49, Nomad $11 (about €9.83, but only 2 GB a day at full speed), Airalo and Yesim €10.50, and Vodafone's DataOnly 25 GB for €10.
  • Five days: Orange Travel costs €14.99, Airalo €16, Holafly and Yesim €17.50.
  • One week: Maya Mobile costs €16.99 (5 GB a day at full speed, then 3 Mbps), Airalo €22 (5 GB a day, then 1 Mbps) and Holafly €22.90; if you do not need unlimited data, Vodafone DataOnly sells 35 GB for €15.
  • Ten days: Orange Travel costs €21.99, far below Airalo (€29.50), Yesim (€29.94) and Holafly (€30.90).
  • Two weeks: Maya costs €23.79 for 14 days and Orange Travel €29.99 for 15 days; Yesim costs €39, Airalo €39.50 and Holafly €42.50.
  • A month: Orange Travel costs €41.99 and Maya €42.49, against €57 at Yesim, €58 at Airalo and €61.90 at Holafly. Vodafone DataOnly sells 140 GB for 30 days at €42.
  • A light user: Yesim sells 1 GB valid 30 days for €2.50; Airalo 5 GB for 7 days at €7.50; Orange Travel 20 GB for 30 days at €14.99.

Orange Travel's prices are discounts of 30% that its product data marks as valid until 15 November 2026. After that date, check its page again: the full prices were €30.99 for 10 days and €83.99 for 30 days.

Do you need an eSIM in Spain at all?

Not if your SIM comes from an EU or EEA country, and maybe not if your home plan already includes Europe. Spain is in the European Union, so a French, German, Italian or Irish SIM works there at domestic prices under the EU's roam-like-at-home rules, as long as you spend more time at home than abroad. The EU portal is explicit that other countries are not covered, and that includes the United Kingdom since Brexit.

For everyone else, compare your own carrier's price with an eSIM before you fly. Here is what the carriers' own pages said on 26 October 2026:

  • AT&T (US): the International Day Pass costs $12 a day on land for one line and $6 a day for each additional line, with no more than 10 daily fees per line per bill period. A week costs $84 for one phone, against €16.99 to €22.90 for an unlimited eSIM week.
  • Verizon (US): TravelPass costs $12 a day in 210+ countries and destinations, and the $100 International Monthly Plan includes 20 GB of high-speed data, then 3G speeds.
  • Three (UK): Go Roam in Europe costs £2.75 per 24 hours for customers who joined or upgraded on or after 18 December 2025, and £2 for those who joined between 1 October 2021 and 17 December 2025. Complete and Value plans started since 22 June 2025 include Europe; the fair-use limit is 12 GB.
  • Vodafone (UK): pay-monthly customers without European roaming can buy an 8-day pass for £16 or a 15-day pass for £21, with a 25 GB roaming fair-use policy.
  • O2 (UK): its travel page says Europe Zone roaming works like at home, up to 25 GB.

So a UK visitor on an O2 plan, or on a recent Three Complete plan, may need nothing. A US visitor on a daily pass pays roughly three to four times the price of a travel eSIM for a week. We could not read EE's or T-Mobile's roaming pages on 26 October 2026, so we give no figures for them: check your account before you leave.

Nomad sells unlimited plans of 3, 5, 7 and 10 days at $11, $18, $25 and $33. Saily also sells Spain plans, but its site refused automated reading on 26 October 2026, so we leave it out of every verdict.

Is an unlimited eSIM for Spain worth it?

Only if you will really use more than a few gigabytes a day, and only once you know the daily cap. Most "unlimited" Spain plans slow down after a daily allowance:

  • Airalo: "Lower speed rate of 1 Mbps after 5 GB usage per day".
  • Maya Mobile: "5GB Per Day full speed, then speed drops to 3Mbps", although its headline promises "No caps, no throttling".
  • Nomad: "2GB/day at 4G/5G. 1 Mbps after 2GB", the tightest cap we found.
  • Holafly: no daily figure, but operators may reduce speed "for no more than one (1) day"; hotspot is limited to 1 GB a day.
  • Yesim and Orange Travel: no figure published; Yesim says speed "may be limited" under the operator's fair-usage policy.

Five gigabytes a day is a lot for a phone: maps, messaging, social media and some video calls rarely reach it. That is why fixed plans often win in Spain. Vodafone's DataOnly eSIM sells 35 GB for 7 days at €15, which is 5 GB a day for less than any unlimited week, and it publishes no daily limit ("Datos sin límite diario"). Orange Travel's 20 GB valid 30 days costs €14.99. An unlimited plan makes sense if you share the connection with a laptop, stream every evening or work remotely from a coastal flat, and then a plan with a generous cap, like Airalo's or Maya's, matters more than the headline price.

One trap with Maya: its page says the plan "Auto-renews while Travel Mode is ON". Switch Travel Mode off at the end of your stay if you do not want another period.

Vodafone's own eSIM for visitors: the local option you can buy at home

Vodafone Spain is the only Spanish operator we found selling a data-only eSIM aimed at visitors, bought online before you travel. Its DataOnly page says the eSIM runs on Vodafone's 5G network in Spain, is delivered by email as a QR code, and that the plan starts when you are in Spain. There are two options for each length:

LengthSmallLarge
3 days2 GB: €425 GB: €10
5 days5 GB: €530 GB: €12
7 days7 GB: €735 GB: €15
10 days8 GB: €855 GB: €19
15 days10 GB: €1075 GB: €23
30 days15 GB: €15140 GB: €42

The page also sells two Spain-plus-EU versions, for 10 days at €30 and 15 days at €39, for trips that continue to France or Portugal. It is a data-only line, with no Spanish phone number. Its FAQ text was not readable on 26 October 2026, so we cannot tell you its rules on hotspot use, the Canary Islands or identity checks; read them before paying.

The trade-off: Vodafone had the slowest average download speed of the five Spanish networks in Opensignal's May 2026 report (37.7 Mbps), against 96.7 Mbps for Movistar and 66.8 Mbps for Orange. For messaging, maps and social media that is ample; for heavy video, an Orange or Movistar-based eSIM is the stronger bet.

Movistar, Orange or Vodafone: which network does each eSIM use?

Most travel eSIMs in Spain ride on Orange, and several can also use Movistar, which measured fastest. In Opensignal's Spain report of May 2026 (data from January to March 2026), Movistar won the Best Network award and led download speed at 96.7 Mbps, ahead of Orange (66.8), Yoigo (45.1), DIGI (39.8) and Vodafone (37.7). On 5G only, DIGI was fastest at 260.4 Mbps, then Movistar at 241.7 and Orange at 180.4. All five networks were available more than 98% of the time; Movistar users spent 45.2% of their time on 5G, Orange users 31.3%.

  • Orange only: Airalo (5G) and Ubigi.
  • Movistar and Orange: Nomad and Maya Mobile, both on 5G according to their plan data.
  • Orange, Movistar, Vodafone and Yoigo: Holafly and Orange Travel.
  • Orange (5G), Vodafone and Yoigo (4G): Yesim.
  • Vodafone only: Vodafone DataOnly.

In cities the differences are smaller than the national averages suggest: in Madrid, Opensignal measured 5G download speeds of 288.8 Mbps on Movistar and 236.9 Mbps on Orange. Coverage matters more on the road. Holafly warns that its signal may be weaker in remote areas, for example in parts of the Pyrenees, and says its Spain eSIM covers the mainland, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands. Airalo's plan note mentions the mainland and the Balearic Islands but not the Canaries; if you are going to Tenerife or Gran Canaria, ask Airalo before buying.

Pros and cons of each provider

Orange Travel

Cheapest for 10, 15 and 30 days of unlimited data, uses all four Spanish networks and allows hotspot. Against it: the prices are discounts dated until 15 November 2026, it publishes no speed policy, and there is no 7-day unlimited plan.

Maya Mobile

One global plan for Spain and 165+ countries, cheapest for 3, 7 and 14 days, with 5 GB a day at full speed; Morocco, Gibraltar, Andorra and Portugal are in its country list. Against it: the plan auto-renews while Travel Mode is on, and its own page contradicts its "no caps" headline.

Airalo

Clear daily cap (5 GB, then 1 Mbps), the widest range of fixed plans (from 1 GB for €4) and an Orange 5G network. Against it: Orange only, and the plan note does not mention the Canary Islands.

Holafly

Any length from 1 to 90 days, four networks and explicit coverage of the Balearic and Canary Islands; prices also available in pounds (£21 for 7 days) and dollars. Against it: hotspot capped at 1 GB a day, and no fixed plans.

Yesim

Pay-per-day unlimited from €3.50 and the cheapest single gigabyte (€2.50 for 30 days). Against it: no published speed cap, and 4G only on Vodafone and Yoigo.

Nomad

Low dollar prices for fixed plans (3 GB for $6) on Movistar and Orange 5G. Against it: unlimited plans slow to 1 Mbps after 2 GB a day.

Vodafone DataOnly

Sold by a Spanish operator, generous fixed allowances for short stays (35 GB for a week at €15), no daily limit announced. Against it: Vodafone measured slowest in Opensignal's 2026 report, and its rules on hotspot and the islands were not readable.

Ubigi

A single Spain plan, 10 GB for 30 days at US$12 on Orange, with data sharing allowed. Fine as a backup, too limited to be a first choice.

Which eSIM should you pick for your trip?

Match the plan to the length of your stay and to where you go next.

  • Weekend city break (2 to 3 days): Maya's 3 days at €8.49, or Vodafone DataOnly's 25 GB for €10 if you only need Spain.
  • A week between Madrid, Toledo and Andalusia: Maya's week at €16.99, or Vodafone DataOnly's 35 GB at €15 if you prefer a local network and no daily cap.
  • Ten days to two weeks on the coast or in the islands: Orange Travel at €21.99 for 10 days or €29.99 for 15 days, or Holafly if you want a seller that names the Canary Islands.
  • A month or more: Orange Travel at €41.99 or Maya at €42.49 for 30 days; for longer stays, a Spanish prepaid line is cheaper, see our guide to Orange, Vodafone and Movistar prepaid.
  • Spain and Morocco: Maya's global plan lists both countries; read eSIM for Spain and Morocco: one plan or two and our Morocco eSIM guide.
  • Spain plus France, Italy or Portugal: a regional plan may be simpler; see eSIMs in Europe: what to know, and our France and Italy guides.

What should you sort out before flying to Madrid or Barcelona?

Buy and install the eSIM at home, check that your phone is unlocked, and keep data roaming off on your home line. A US or UK phone left on its home SIM may trigger a daily roaming charge as soon as an app syncs on landing.

If a seller asks for your phone's EID, our guide shows where to find the EID number. If nothing connects at Barajas or El Prat, check that data roaming is on for the eSIM line and that it is selected for mobile data, then work through 10 fixes for a travel eSIM not working abroad.

How we compared

We read each provider's Spain page, or the plan data it embeds, on 26 October 2026, and recorded price, validity, data, networks, speed cap, start of validity and hotspot rule. Prices are those displayed, in euros except where the page displayed dollars; dollar prices are converted at the latest European Central Bank reference rate available that day, that of 23 October 2026 (1 euro for 1.1193 dollars). Maya's euro prices are its own.

Roaming prices come from AT&T's, Verizon's, Three's, Vodafone UK's and O2's own pages; EE's and T-Mobile's pages could not be read and are left out. Network figures come from Opensignal's Spain report of May 2026. We did not buy the plans or test them in Spain. Prices change often, and Orange Travel marks its discounts as valid until 15 November 2026, so check the provider's page before you buy. Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an eSIM in Spain with a UK phone?expand_more
Often yes. Since Brexit, UK SIMs are not covered by the EU's roam-like-at-home rules, and carriers such as Three charge a daily fee unless your plan includes Europe. O2 says its Europe Zone roaming works like at home up to 25 GB, so check your own plan first.
What is the cheapest eSIM for Spain?expand_more
On 26 October 2026, for unlimited data, Maya Mobile's global plan was cheapest for 3, 7 and 14 days and Orange Travel for 10, 15 and 30 days. For a fixed allowance, Yesim sold 1 GB for 30 days at €2.50 and Vodafone DataOnly 35 GB for 7 days at €15.
Does a Spain eSIM work in the Canary and Balearic Islands?expand_more
Holafly says its Spain eSIM covers the mainland, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands. Airalo's plan note mentions the mainland and the Balearic Islands only, so ask the seller before buying for Tenerife or Gran Canaria.
Is unlimited data really unlimited in Spain?expand_more
Rarely. Airalo slows to 1 Mbps after 5 GB a day, Maya to 3 Mbps after 5 GB, and Nomad to 1 Mbps after 2 GB. Holafly limits hotspot sharing to 1 GB a day.
Can I use one eSIM for Spain and Morocco?expand_more
Yes, with a global or multi-country plan: Maya Mobile's global plan lists both Spain and Morocco. Spain-only plans stop working when you cross the Strait of Gibraltar.
