An eSIM for a Spain and Morocco trip has to solve one problem: Europe plans stop at the Strait of Gibraltar. Morocco is outside the EU roaming zone and outside almost every "Europe" eSIM. You can buy one worldwide eSIM that covers Spain, Portugal and Morocco, or two plans, one per side, which cost less than the big brands' worldwide plans. Here is what each choice cost on 1 October 2026.

Key takeaways

  • Morocco is outside the EU "roam like at home" zone, and the Europe eSIMs of Airalo, Holafly, Ubigi and Orange Travel do not cover it: these Europe plans stop working when you reach Morocco.
  • One eSIM can cover Spain, Portugal and Morocco with a worldwide plan or a "Europe & Morocco" bundle: on 1 October 2026, unlimited data for about two weeks cost €77 at Ubigi (Best World, 15 days), €84.50 at Holafly (Global, 14 days) and €87 at Airalo (Discover, 15 days).
  • Against those big-brand worldwide plans, two eSIMs cost less for unlimited data: a week in Spain and a week in Morocco came to €45.19 with Airalo and Nomad, or €45.50 with Airalo and eSIM Maroc. Smaller global brands listed by esimdb, such as Maya Mobile ($27.99 for 14 days), can cost less than both.

Why does a Europe eSIM stop working in Morocco?

Because Morocco is not part of the EU roaming zone, and the main Europe eSIMs leave it out of their country lists. The European Union's "roam like at home" rules cover the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Moldova and Ukraine. "Other countries are not covered by this regime", the Commission writes, although "many operators choose to extend these offers" to other countries.

A Spanish line shows what that means in Morocco. Movistar puts Morocco in its roaming zone 2, where data costs €12.10 per megabyte without a bundle. Orange Spain includes Morocco in its "Destinos Plus" zone of 47 countries outside the EU, with 3 GB for €9 per 24 hours or 25 GB for €25 over 7 days. Our guide to what roaming in Morocco really costs lists the French, British and German rates.

Travel eSIMs follow the same border. We checked the country lists of four Europe plans on 1 October 2026:

  • Airalo Eurolink: 41 countries, Spain and Portugal included, Morocco not.
  • Holafly Europe: Spain and Portugal included, Morocco not.
  • Ubigi Europe: Spain and Portugal listed, Morocco not.
  • Orange Travel Europe: its Europe zone includes Spain and Portugal; Morocco sits in its Africa zone.

A plan sold as "Europe" is therefore the wrong tool for the Moroccan half of the trip. Our guide to eSIMs for travel in Europe covers the European side on its own.

Which eSIMs really cover Spain, Portugal and Morocco?

Worldwide plans from Airalo, Holafly, Ubigi, Nomad and Orange Travel cover all three countries, along with a wholesale "Europe and Morocco" bundle sold by smaller brands. The comparison database esimdb listed 10,948 Morocco plans from 215 providers on 1 October 2026. Of these, 3,906 plans from 169 providers were also valid in Spain, and every one of those also covered Portugal.

The table lists the multi-country plans we could check on the providers' own pages, with the price of about two weeks.

PlanCoversAbout two weeksFull-speed data
Ubigi Best World, unlimitedMorocco (Maroc Telecom, Orange), Spain (Orange Spain), Portugal€77 for 15 days30 GB, then 2 Mbps
Holafly Global, unlimitedMorocco, Spain, Portugal€84.50 for 14 daysNo figure published
Airalo Discover, unlimitedAll three, according to esimdb€87 for 15 days3 GB a day, then 1 Mbps
Orange Travel WorldAll three, according to esimdb€29.99 for 30 days20 GB, plus 50 SMS and 15 minutes
Airalo Discover, fixed168 countries, including all three€32 for 60 days5 GB
Nomad Regional Global123 countries, including all three€35.09 for 30 days5 GB

Ubigi sells in euros at the same figures as in dollars, and Nomad shows its own euro prices next to its dollar prices (€35.09 for a $40 plan); we quote both as displayed. The Orange Travel World price is a promotion valid until 15 November 2026, against a crossed-out €49.99. Its page does not list the countries, so the coverage comes from esimdb.

The wholesale bundle is the other route. esimdb lists about 380 plans called "Europe (40+ areas) & Morocco" or similar, sold by nearly 40 small brands, all valid in Spain and Portugal; for one of them, AlpineSIM, esimdb names Orange as the Moroccan network. We did not check those sellers' own sites, so we quote no price for them. Saily, Maya Mobile and GigSky also sell global plans that include Morocco, but their sites blocked automated reading, as they did in our earlier survey. esimdb's own listing shows how much cheaper some of them can be: Maya Mobile's "14 Days Unlimited Global Data" plan, valid in Morocco, Spain and Portugal, was listed at $27.99 (€23.79 in esimdb's euro column) on 1 October 2026, with 5 GB a day at full speed, then 3 Mbps, on Orange in Morocco. We could not confirm that price or those terms on Maya's own site.

One multi-country eSIM or two separate ones: what costs less?

For unlimited data, every pair of eSIMs we priced costs less than the worldwide unlimited plans we could check on the providers' own pages, and the cheapest pairs cost at least €31 less than the cheapest of them (€77 at Ubigi); only smaller global brands listed by esimdb, such as Maya Mobile, undercut them. We priced two common itineraries with the plans in the tables above, at the prices shown on 1 October 2026.

A week in Spain, then a week in Morocco

OptionSpain partMorocco partTotal
Airalo Spain + Nomad Morocco€21.50 (7 days)€23.69 (7 days)€45.19
Airalo Spain + eSIM Maroc€21.50 (7 days)€24 (7 days)€45.50
Nomad Spain + Nomad Morocco€21.93 (7 days)€23.69 (7 days)€45.62
Ubigi Europe + Ubigi Morocco€23 (7 days)€25 (7 days)€48
Holafly Spain + Holafly Morocco€22.50 (7 days)€28.90 (7 days)€51.40
Ubigi Best World (one eSIM)15 days, 30 GB at full speed€77
Holafly Global (one eSIM)14 days€84.50
Airalo Discover (one eSIM)15 days, 3 GB a day€87

The cheapest pair, Airalo for Spain and Nomad for Morocco, costs €31.81 less than Ubigi's worldwide plan. eSIM Maroc comes 31 cents behind Nomad for the Moroccan week, with 1 GB a day at full speed against Nomad's 2 GB. Spain prices come from Airalo's Spain page, Nomad's Spain page, Holafly's Spain page and Ubigi's Europe plan.

Five days in Spain and Portugal, then ten days in Morocco

Spain-only plans such as Holafly's cover Spain alone, so this itinerary needs a Europe plan for the first leg. The combinations we priced, cheapest first, were:

  • Nomad Europe + Orange Travel Morocco: €16.67 + €28.99 = €45.66.
  • Orange Travel Europe + Orange Travel Morocco: €16.99 + €28.99 = €45.98, both from the same provider.
  • Airalo Eurolink + Orange Travel Morocco: €18 + €28.99 = €46.99.
  • Nomad Europe + Nomad Morocco: €16.67 + €30.71 = €47.38.
  • Nomad Europe + eSIM Maroc: €16.67 + €32 = €48.67.
  • Airalo Eurolink + eSIM Maroc: €18 + €32 = €50.
  • Holafly Europe + Holafly Morocco: €18.50 + €38.90 = €57.40.

A single worldwide plan for the same 15 days costs €77 at Ubigi, €87 at Airalo and €89.90 at Holafly. The Orange Travel Morocco price is a promotion that ends on 15 November 2026; after that date, the eSIM Maroc and Nomad pairings move up the list. For every trip length in Morocco alone, see our price-per-day comparison.

When one eSIM is the better deal

If you mostly need maps and messages, a fixed worldwide plan beats any pair of unlimited plans. Orange Travel's World plan gives 20 GB for 30 days at €29.99 while the promotion lasts, and Airalo Discover gives 5 GB over 60 days for €32. A single plan also means one installation and no line switching at the border. It makes most sense when the Moroccan leg is short, or when you continue to a third country outside Europe. If the esimdb listing of Maya Mobile's 14-day unlimited global plan ($27.99) matches the price on its own site when you buy, it also beats both pairs for heavy use; check its daily cap and networks first.

Where does eSIM Maroc fit in a Spain and Morocco trip?

eSIM Maroc covers the Moroccan half only, so it always needs a partner plan for Spain and Portugal. Its FAQ is explicit: "Our eSIMs are designed specifically for Morocco. They will not work (or will work with very reduced speeds) in other countries." It is the Morocco specialist linked from this site's menu, and the numbers below apply to it as to everyone else.

Pros

  • Close to the cheapest for a Moroccan week: €24 for 7 days, 31 cents more than Nomad and less than Ubigi (€25), Holafly (€28.90) and Airalo (€32).
  • The clock starts in Morocco. Validity begins at the first connection to a Moroccan network, so you can install it at home with your Spain plan and switch it on after the crossing.
  • Short legs are covered: a 1-day plan at €6 and a 3-day plan at €14 suit a day trip across the Strait or a long weekend, although Yesim (€4.50) and Holafly (€5.50) are cheaper for one day, and Nomad (€12.28), Holafly and Yesim (both €13.50) for three.
  • Hotspot on every plan, according to its FAQ; its terms (article 11) add that the operator or device may limit sharing.

Cons

  • Not the cheapest at 10 days: €32, against €28.99 for the Orange Travel promotion and €30.71 at Nomad.
  • The lowest daily cap of the named brands: 1 GB a day at full speed, then 512 kbps.
  • Morocco only: no Spain or Portugal coverage, and no extension of an active plan; a longer stay means a new eSIM.
  • Refund rules that conflict: the FAQ allows a refund within 30 days if the QR code has not been scanned, while the terms (article 8) exclude refunds once the eSIM has been generated, except in exceptional circumstances.

When should you switch lines on the ferry to Morocco?

Switch to the Morocco line when you land in Morocco, not when you board. The crossing is the moment the phone changes country, and it is short: DFDS says its Algeciras to Tanger Med route takes about an hour and a half, with at least 11 crossings a day. DFDS also stopped its Tarifa to Tangier Ville route after a last departure on 4 May 2025, so check the operator before you plan around that crossing.

Three rules decide what happens on board:

  • Satellite networks on ships: the EU rules apply on a ship only while the phone is on a land-based network, for example in the harbour. If the ship provides mobile service by satellite, "EU rules no longer apply" and there are "no price caps", the Commission warns. It advises switching roaming off or using flight mode on board.
  • The Morocco clock: eSIM Maroc and the other plans that start at the first Moroccan connection can begin counting as soon as the phone catches a Moroccan network. Leaving the Morocco line off until you are ashore at Tanger Med keeps that first day for Morocco.
  • The home line: keep data roaming off on your home line throughout, since it is not covered in Morocco.

The same logic applies if you fly from Madrid, Lisbon or Seville. Our airport guide covers the first hour after landing in Casablanca or Marrakech.

Can your phone hold a Spain eSIM and a Morocco eSIM?

Yes: an iPhone stores eight or more eSIMs, according to Apple, and you only need one line active at a time for data. Apple's dual SIM page says "iPhone 13 models and later also support Dual SIM with two eSIMs", and its travel page confirms that an iPhone can have two eSIMs active at once. An iPhone uses one cellular data network at a time, so you choose which line carries data in each country.

That gives a simple sequence for the trip:

  1. Install both eSIMs at home on Wi-Fi, a day or two before departure.
  2. In Spain and Portugal, the Europe or Spain eSIM is on and set for data; the Morocco eSIM is installed but off.
  3. After the crossing, switch the Morocco eSIM on, set it for data and turn the Spain eSIM off.
  4. Your home line can stay on for calls and bank SMS, with data roaming off. If your home line is itself an eSIM, this needs an iPhone 13 or later, the first models that run two eSIMs at once.

The exact menus are in our Morocco eSIM installation guide for iPhone and Android, and our guide to running two travel eSIMs at the same time covers the Android side. Before buying anything, check that your phone takes an eSIM on our list of compatible phones, for example on the iPhone 17, Galaxy S25 or Pixel 10 pages.

Which Moroccan network will a multi-country plan use?

Each plan picks its own Moroccan network, and a worldwide plan is no more likely than a Morocco plan to offer all three. Ubigi's Best World plan names Maroc Telecom and Orange in Morocco, and Orange Spain in Spain. esimdb names Orange Maroc for the wholesale "Europe and Morocco" bundle sold by AlpineSIM. Holafly's Morocco page names inwi, Maroc Telecom and Orange for its Morocco plans; we did not find the network of its Global plan.

The network matters outside the big cities. Our comparison of Maroc Telecom, Orange and inwi explains where each one is stronger, and our comparison of the best eSIMs for Morocco lists the network of each Morocco plan. Whatever you pick, the free eSIM Check app on Android reads your device's real hardware capabilities in seconds.

Which option fits your trip?

Choose by how much data you use and how many borders you cross, not by the word "unlimited". The same prices lead to different answers for different travellers.

  • Heavy user, Spain then Morocco: two unlimited eSIMs. A Spain plan from Airalo or Nomad plus a Morocco plan from Nomad or eSIM Maroc cost about €45 for two weeks, against €77 or more for the big-brand worldwide unlimited plans we checked.
  • Spain, Portugal and Morocco: a Europe plan for the Iberian leg, because single-country Spain plans stop at the Portuguese border, then a Morocco plan. Nomad, Orange Travel and Airalo all sell 5-day unlimited Europe plans between €16.67 and €18.
  • Light user who mostly needs maps and messages: one fixed worldwide plan, such as Orange Travel World (20 GB for 30 days at €29.99 until 15 November 2026) or Airalo Discover (5 GB for 60 days at €32).
  • Laptop or hotspot user: look at the full-speed allowance. Ubigi gives 25 GB for 7 days in Europe and in Morocco, then 2 Mbps, the highest speed after the allowance among the plans we read on the providers' own pages (esimdb lists 3 Mbps for Maya Mobile).
  • Day trip across the Strait: a 1-day Morocco plan, such as Holafly at €5.50 or eSIM Maroc at €6, is cheaper than switching the whole trip to a worldwide plan.

Our guide to the real daily caps of unlimited Morocco eSIMs explains what each speed allows once the full-speed data runs out.

How we compared

We read each provider's own page on 1 October 2026 for prices, plan lengths and full-speed allowances, and the coverage lists embedded in Airalo's, Holafly's, Ubigi's, Nomad's and Orange Travel's pages to see which plans include Morocco. Where a provider does not publish its country list, as for Orange Travel World and Airalo's unlimited Discover plan, the coverage comes from the esimdb database, and we say so. All prices are quoted in the currency and at the figure each provider displays; we converted nothing ourselves.

We did not buy the plans or measure speeds. Promotional prices, such as Orange Travel's, can end before your trip, so check the price on the day you buy. If your home plan already includes Morocco, compare it first with our checklist of roaming charges to check before travelling.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a Europe eSIM work in Morocco?expand_more
Usually not. Morocco is outside the EU roaming zone, and the Europe plans of Airalo, Holafly, Ubigi and Orange Travel do not list it. You need a worldwide plan that includes Morocco, or a separate Morocco eSIM.
Is there one eSIM for Spain, Portugal and Morocco?expand_more
Yes, worldwide plans cover all three. On 1 October 2026, about two weeks of unlimited data cost €77 at Ubigi Best World, €84.50 at Holafly Global and €87 at Airalo Discover. For light use, Orange Travel World gave 20 GB for 30 days at €29.99 on promotion, and esimdb listed cheaper global unlimited plans from smaller brands such as Maya Mobile.
Is it cheaper to buy two eSIMs for Spain and Morocco?expand_more
Yes, for unlimited data. A week in Spain plus a week in Morocco cost €45.19 with Airalo and Nomad, or €45.50 with Airalo and eSIM Maroc, against €77 for the cheapest big-brand worldwide unlimited plan we checked on the provider's own page. Smaller brands listed by esimdb, such as Maya Mobile at $27.99 for 14 days, can be cheaper still.
Does eSIM Maroc work in Spain?expand_more
No. eSIM Maroc states that its eSIMs are designed for Morocco and will not work, or only at very reduced speeds, in other countries. Pair it with a Spain or Europe eSIM for the European part of the trip.
When should I switch to my Morocco eSIM on the ferry?expand_more
After you land in Morocco. Plans that start at the first Moroccan connection can begin counting as soon as the phone catches a Moroccan network, and the EU warns that satellite networks on ships have no price caps.
