Roaming in Senegal: what EE, O2, Vodafone, Three, Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile charge

Senegal is outside every European roaming deal. EE, O2, Vodafone, Three, Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile prices checked on 16 October 2026, The Gambia too.

Roaming in Senegal is billed as a worldwide destination by UK and US carriers, and two big UK networks include it in no daily offer at all. We read the Senegal terms of seven carriers on 16 October 2026: EE, O2, Vodafone and Three in the UK, and Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile in the United States. Here is what a day and a week cost, what changes if you cross into The Gambia, and when a travel eSIM is cheaper.

Key takeaways

  • On 16 October 2026, a week of roaming in Senegal cost £40 with EE's 7-Day Pass, £42 with Three's 7-day pass, and $84 at Verizon's or AT&T's $12 a day. Vodafone UK and O2 include Senegal in no daily offer: data costs £40 for 1 GB at Vodafone and £65 for 1 GB at O2.
  • T-Mobile includes Senegal in its 215+ destinations: Experience More and Experience Beyond plans get 5 GB or 15 GB at high speed there, and Essentials customers buy passes, the 10-day one at $50 for 15 GB.
  • A travel eSIM for data costs less than most of these: Holafly sold 7 days of unlimited data in Senegal for £33 ($40.90), and you can keep your home SIM for calls and texts with its data roaming switched off.

How do UK and US carriers bill Senegal?

As a faraway destination: EE and Three include it in their worldwide passes, Vodafone and O2 only sell expensive data add-ons, and the three US carriers treat it like most other countries. Senegal is far from every European roaming arrangement, so no UK plan uses your allowance there for free. This is where each carrier puts it:

  • EE: "Zone 2 (includes Morocco, Mauritius, Egypt and more)", with day and week passes that use your UK allowances.
  • Three: "Go Roam Around the World Extra", on pay monthly plans that started from 1 October 2021.
  • Vodafone: "Rest of the World" Zone 2, outside the 84 destinations of its Global Roam plans.
  • O2: outside the 75 destinations of O2 Travel; Zone 3 for data bolt-ons.
  • Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile: in the standard list of their international day passes or roaming plans.

The networks you connect to in Senegal are Orange (Sonatel), Yas and Expresso. Which one your carrier uses does not change what you pay at home.

What do UK carriers charge in Senegal?

From £40 a week with EE's 7-Day Pass to £65 for a single gigabyte of data at O2. These are the terms on 16 October 2026 for pay monthly customers:

CarrierHow Senegal is billedPer dayA week
EEZone 2 pass, using your UK allowances£8 (24-Hour Pass)£40 (7-Day Pass)
ThreeGo Roam Around the World Extra, up to 12 GB£7, or £8 if you joined from 18 December 2025£42 (7-day pass)
VodafoneRest of the World Zone 2, data passes onlyNo daily offer£40 for a 1 GB pass valid 8 days, calls extra
O2Zone 3 data bolt-onsNo daily offer£65 for 1 GB, calls extra

EE

EE's roaming page lists Senegal in Zone 2, with a "24-Hour Pass" at £8 and a "7-Day Pass" at £40 that let you use your UK calls, texts and data. Zone 2 is not eligible as an "Inclusive Extra". Without a pass, EE's country data for Senegal lists calls at £2.46 a minute, made or received, and texts at 98p, and data only through an add-on: "20MB of data for £14.09 per day".

Three

Three's destination list puts Senegal among its "Go Roam Around the World Extra" destinations, where you "use your plan's data, minutes, and texts" and "up to 12GB of your data allowance". You unlock them with a daily charge of £7, or £8 if you joined or upgraded on or after 18 December 2025, a charge that "will start from 1 April 2026". Three's price guide also lists passes: £17.50 for 3 days, £29.75 for 5 days, £42 for 7 days and £84 for 14 days. Go Roam Around the World Extra "is not available if you're on Pay As You Go or your Pay Monthly plan started before 1 October 2021".

Vodafone

Vodafone's roaming charge checker answered for Senegal, on pay monthly: "Make calls £1.28 per minute", "Receive calls 72p per minute", "Text messages 30p per text" and "Using data 60p per MB". It adds: "If you joined or upgraded on or after 21 February 2024, you need to buy a Pass to use your data in this country." The Zone 2 passes last 8 days: 50 MB for £10, 250 MB for £20, 500 MB for £30 and 1 GB for £40. The checker also states: "4G is not available in Senegal."

O2

O2 Travel, at £7 a day, does not list Senegal among its 75 destinations, and neither does the Inclusive Zone Ultimate. That leaves the data bolt-ons: Senegal is in Zone 3, where 100 MB costs £26, 500 MB £45 and 1 GB £65. "Data Roaming Bolt Ons do not cover calls and texts", and "making or receiving calls outside Europe is charged at £3/min and sending a text costs £1". The bolt-ons "aren't available on Pay As You Go".

What do US carriers charge in Senegal?

$12 a day at Verizon and AT&T, $84 for a week; T-Mobile includes Senegal in its plans and sells a 10-day pass for $50. These are the terms on 16 October 2026:

CarrierHow Senegal is billedPer dayA week
VerizonTravelPass, 5 GB at high speed then 3G speeds$12$84 (7 × $12)
AT&TInternational Day Pass, unlimited plans$12 ($6 per extra line)$84 (7 × $12)
T-MobileIncluded in qualifying plans; passes otherwise$10 (1-day pass, 2 GB)$50 (10-day pass, 15 GB)

Verizon

Verizon's TravelPass country list reads "Senegal | $12 per day". You are charged "only on the days you make or receive a call, send texts or use data", and "after 5GB of high speed data", the rest of the session runs "at 3G speeds". Without TravelPass, its pricing page for Senegal lists $2.99 a minute and $2.05 per MB, or an international monthly plan at $100.

AT&T

AT&T's International Day Pass gives "unlimited talk, text, and high-speed data for $12/day" in 210+ destinations, Senegal included, with "$6 for each additional line used on the same calendar day". It applies "when added to your Unlimited Plan". Pay-per-use rates are "$4/minute in all other countries", "$1/text message" and "$2.05/MB".

T-Mobile

T-Mobile lists Senegal among the destinations "included with your international roaming benefit". Its Experience Beyond plan gives "up to 15 GB high-speed data, then unlimited at up to 256Kbps", Experience More "up to 5GB", and calls cost $0.50 a minute. Essentials customers buy passes: "1 Day (2GB)" for $10, "10 day (15GB)" for $50 and "30 Day (30GB)" for $75, which can also be used "as a mobile hotspot".

Is a travel eSIM cheaper than roaming in Senegal?

For data, yes in most cases: a week of unlimited data from a travel eSIM costs less than EE's or Three's week, far less than Verizon's or AT&T's, and a fraction of Vodafone's or O2's per-gigabyte prices. Compare a week, on prices checked on 16 October 2026:

OptionA week of dataWhat you get
Holafly travel eSIM£33 / $40.90Unlimited data on Orange, no published full-speed figure
Maya Mobile global eSIM$19.99Unlimited data, renews automatically, no network named
EE 7-Day Pass£40Your UK calls, texts and data
Three 7-day pass£42Your UK allowance, up to 12 GB of data
Vodafone 8-day pass£401 GB of data only
O2 Zone 3 bolt-on£651 GB of data only
Verizon or AT&T$84Your US plan, 7 days at $12
T-Mobile 10-day pass$5015 GB and calls

The home-carrier options keep your number for calls and texts, which the eSIM does not. The usual compromise is to install a travel eSIM for data and keep the home SIM in the phone for incoming texts, such as bank codes, with its data roaming switched off. Our comparison of Senegal eSIMs lists the plans by trip length, and our guide to running two lines at the same time explains the settings.

If your plan already includes Senegal, the maths changes: a T-Mobile Experience Beyond customer gets 15 GB at no extra cost, and an EE customer on a short trip may prefer a single £8 day pass to a new eSIM.

What happens if you roam in Senegal without a pass?

You pay by the megabyte, and the bill grows fast: 100 MB costs $205 at Verizon's or AT&T's pay-as-you-go rate, and £60 at Vodafone's 60p per MB, a rate that only Vodafone customers who joined or upgraded before 21 February 2024 can still use without a pass. Three's pay-as-you-go customers, whose plans do not cover Go Roam Around the World Extra destinations, pay £6 per MB in Senegal, and £2 a minute for calls, according to its price guide. Three states that it has "set up a worldwide data roaming limit of £45 (excl VAT)", which stops the bill for data at that point.

A phone checks for updates, syncs photos and refreshes apps in the background as soon as data roaming is on. Before you land, either buy the pass your carrier offers, or switch data roaming off on your home line and use Wi-Fi or a travel eSIM. Our guide to roaming charges to check before travelling lists the settings to change.

Does roaming in The Gambia cost the same?

At Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Vodafone and O2, yes; at EE and Three, The Gambia costs far more than Senegal. The Gambia sits between the Saloum Delta and Casamance, so a road trip in Senegal can cross it. On 16 October 2026:

  • EE puts The Gambia in Zone 4: a 24-hour pass costs £16 for only 10 MB of data, there is no 7-day pass, and calls cost £2.46 a minute.
  • Three does not include The Gambia in Go Roam: you pay its standard rates, £6 per MB of data and £2 a minute for calls.
  • Vodafone puts The Gambia in the same Zone 2 as Senegal, so one 8-day pass covers both countries; its checker says "4G data is available in Gambia".
  • O2 puts both in Zone 3, at the same bolt-on prices.
  • Verizon lists "Gambia | $12 per day", AT&T includes it in the Day Pass list, and T-Mobile includes it in its roaming benefit.

A Senegal-only travel eSIM does not work in The Gambia. If you cross, a regional plan such as Airalo's "Hello Africa", which covers both countries, avoids a second purchase. Our guide to local SIMs in Senegal covers the Gambia roaming passes of Orange and Yas.

Is a local Senegalese SIM worth it instead?

For a stay of a week or more with heavy data use, often yes. Orange's tourist SIM, the Sim Teeru, cost 9,900 CFA francs (about €15.09) on 16 October 2026 for 15 GB (5 GB of it usable only on 5G), 600 national minutes and 500 texts valid 15 days, at its shop in the arrivals area of Blaise Diagne airport. You need a passport and a boarding pass or ticket: Senegalese rules require every SIM buyer to be identified, in person, when the line is sold.

A local SIM gives you a Senegalese number, useful for drivers and guesthouses, but replaces your home number in a single-SIM phone. A phone that takes an eSIM and a physical SIM can hold both.

Which option suits which traveller?

The cheapest choice depends on your carrier, your plan and how long you stay. On the prices checked on 16 October 2026:

  • EE customer, short trip: the £8 24-Hour Pass for a day or two, the £40 7-Day Pass for a week if you need your UK minutes.
  • Three pay monthly customer: the £42 7-day pass, or the daily charge on the days you need it.
  • Vodafone or O2 customer: a travel eSIM for data; their passes give 1 GB for £40 or £65.
  • Verizon or AT&T customer: TravelPass or the Day Pass for a few days, a travel eSIM beyond three or four days.
  • T-Mobile customer: your plan's included data, or the $50 10-day pass on Essentials.
  • Anyone staying two weeks or more: Orange's Sim Teeru, or a large fixed travel eSIM plan.

Will you get 4G while roaming in Senegal?

It depends on your carrier's agreements: Vodafone UK's roaming checker says "4G is not available in Senegal" for its customers, while the local networks themselves run 4G, and Orange and Yas 5G. In nPerf's coverage barometer of September 2026, built from tests run by Android users, Orange customers recorded 4G in 85.43% of the map squares where they ran tests, and 97.39% once those squares are weighted by how many nPerf users pass through them. But a roaming customer gets only the technologies covered by the deal between their carrier and the Senegalese operator.

A travel eSIM also roams on a Senegalese network, under its own provider's agreements: the Holafly, Nomad and Airalo pages we read name Orange or Yas and advertise 4G, or 4G and 5G.

How do you use a travel eSIM and keep your number?

Install the eSIM at home, keep your home SIM on for calls and texts, and set the eSIM as the line for mobile data. Check first that your phone is on our list of eSIM-compatible phones, for example on our pages for the iPhone range or Google Pixel, and that it is unlocked. After landing, switch data roaming on for the eSIM line only. If it does not connect, our guide to an eSIM stuck on activating walks through the fixes, and here is how to find your EID number if a provider asks for it.

How we checked

We read each carrier's own roaming pages on 16 October 2026: EE's roaming page and country data, Three's destination list and price guides, Vodafone's roaming charge checker, O2's bolt-on and O2 Travel pages, Verizon's TravelPass list and pricing page, AT&T's Day Pass and pay-per-use pages, and T-Mobile's roaming destination list and pass pages. A week is seven times the daily price where a carrier sells no weekly pass. We could not read O2's per-country rate for data without a bolt-on, nor giffgaff's or Lebara's Senegal prices, so they are not quoted. Prices change, and the terms of your own plan prevail, so check with your carrier before you travel.
