Cellular iPad models support eSIM; Wi-Fi-only models have no cellular hardware at all and cannot use one, whatever the model name says. iPad Pro (M4 and M5), iPad Air (M2 and later), iPad (A16) and iPad mini (A17 Pro) have no SIM tray: they are eSIM-only in every country. Older cellular iPads combine a nano-SIM tray with the eSIM. Activation is under Settings › Cellular Data › Add eSIM.
